Why do they invest in the competitors they’re already squashing? Remember the Apple stock deal about 6 years ago? And now, Microsoft is sponsoring Novell’s Linux initiative? Of course, just as Apple promised to develop Microsoft Office for the Mac as a part of their bailout deal with Apple, Uncle Bill and Co. are now providing Novell with immunity from alleged patent infringement lawsuits related to Linux in general. I. Just. Don’t. Get it.

It’s a competitive response to Oracle offering support for Linux. Novell offers support for Linux, Microsoft supports Novell, Oracle now has deep pocketed competition in this space.

Seriously, could this be a first step to doing an Apple/Next kind of deal to replace the core Windows OS with Linux underpinnings?
MS has blown off the digital audio players makers to go vertically integrated, it has its own gaming hardware, could it be that a MS PC hardware division is coming with a new OS based on Linux and featuring the Vista GUI?
This could solve a lot of problems that MS is facing long term, a list too long to even get started with here.
Just a wild thought becasue I can’t figure it out either.
