GoogleTalkAbout (the official Google Talk blog) has the deets on the newest iteration of Google’s desktop VoIP calling software. Essentially, it’s still an I.M. package at its heart, and I for one am not nearly as impressed with ‘Talk’s new features as its developers seem to be. That said, here’s what’s new:
- File transfers (yawn). Probably the only thing to speak of here is the port 80 single socket transfer, which brings GoogleTalk up to speed with other I.M. products. The one cool aspect is that GT lets you transfer entire folders. That’s pretty cool.
- Photo sharing with previews. The preview thumbnail is pretty cool, but nothing iChat users haven’t been doing for two years already. Then again, there’s no Mac native version of GoogleTalk (nor is there a Windows version of iChat so maybe this really is a first.
-Â Voicemail. OK, so now–where’s the rest of the features that will bring Google into parity with Skype?
